SHIMANO BLUE ROSE VERTICAL JIGGING

For 2009, we are proud to introduce the OCEA Blue Rose range of saltwater rods designed to bring the pleasures of the vertical lure technique known as Butterfl y Jigging to ever more anglers worldwide. One-piece rods of either 1.83 or 1.93m, choose from spinning or standard models in four weight categories from medium to extra heavy. All are equipped with Fuji reel seats and SiC Titanium guides, EVA grips and nylon rod bags.

Shimano have been championing Butterfl y Jigging (a unique and highly eff ective style of fi shing in Japan) for some years now and the level of interest and take-up is growing rapidly due to its simplicity and eff ectiveness.
The technique itself is not complicated - just diff erent. It has nothing to do with traditional pirking, where you move your pirk over a limited column of water. Butterfl y jigging covers far more water, the average lift being from around 10 to 30 metres of water. So what happens next? The special jigs are unbalanced and will move sideward. It’s similar to the surface lure technique known as ‘walking the dog’ only you’re fi shing in a vertical water column rather than horizontally. Numerous saltwater species are tripping up to butterfl y jigs, producing hammering bites on relatively light tackle. Species we never thought would hunt in this way, such as Pollack and big Cod are falling victim. One advantage of butterfl y jigging is that you do not need live or deadbait. A few jigs are all that’s required for a day’s sport. The bites are so hard and the demands so tough, that the technique demands heavy-duty reels and rods. A simple spinning reel or multiplier will probably die on the fi rst trip. For multiplier reels, the Torsa, Trinidad and Torium are all up to the job whilst Stella SW, Twin Power and Stradic fi xed spool reels are also suitable.
